Common Sense on Immigration

If you ask the average person what they think about illegal immigration, they would probably tell you they support LEGAL immigration, being the melting pot and nation of immigrants that we are.  However they would also probably support strong border enforcement and oppose rewarding those who come here illegally.  This sounds fair – I agree 100%.  Why then is it that every time there is someone who is providing that strong enforcement that we want in a fair and proper manner, the Conventional Wisdom is to shun them and denounce them as a racist!?  Personally, I would just give them a simple “thank you.”  Ask them yourself – they’ll tell you they’re not racist – they just want the rule of law to be enforced.

The issue of illegal immigration has NOTHING to do with racism.  People who say otherwise are just thinking with their emotions and not their brain.  If someone comes to this country illegally from Mexico, that’s not okay.  If someone comes to this country legally from Mexico, that’s okay.  If someone comes to this country illegally from Europe, that’s not okay.  If someone comes to this country legally from Europe, that’s okay.  People feel like they should be sensitive – call them “undocumented workers” and all.  I do not dish out my sympathy to criminals – they are illegal aliens and that’s what I call them.  If they want my respect, they should obey the law and become an upstanding citizen of society.  It’s got nothing to do with their background.  In fact, if they would put in the time and effort to do things the right way, that might help shake the “lazy Mexican” label they so often complain about.
