I know I already did a post on this, but I keep hearing about it over and over well over four months after the election is over. Barack Obama is – an – American – citizen. He – is – an – American. He – is – natural – born. Period. End of story! Some people just don’t know when to quit. It’s a lost cause, ok?! Obama is President, now get over it. But some of the nation’s leading right-wingers continue to beat the dead horse – which is well on its way to mummified decomposing by now. “Birth certificate this” – “Kenya that” – “naturalization this” – “election fraud that.” I’ve listened to everything that there is to say about this and it does not add up. Look, Obama was born to American parentage, whether or not he was physically in the country at the time. Even John McCain was born outside of the continental United States – so the door happened to swing both ways with this ludicrous argument this election cycle. I have no respect at all for this position – its chasing a hopeless CONSPIRACY THEORY. And the people who are advocating this conspiracy theory are only making things worse for themselves. They’re starting to remind me of those 9/11 Truth whackos and as far as I’m concerned they might as well be.
Advocates of this have included several prominent names – mostly in the Republican Party. Roy Moore, the judge who protected the Ten Commandments monument in Alabama several years ago. Many of these were people I otherwise would admire – which further sickens me about this. Lets take Alan Keyes for instance – he’s been a major voice behind spearheading this movement. He’s had quite a career direction in his time. In the 1980s he was a diplomat for the Reagan Administration and acted as a qualified, capable policymaker and statesman. In the earlier part of the decade he was Ambassador to the United Nations. Fastforward a bit. He runs for the GOP Nomination in 2000. He was running against figures like John McCain and George W. Bush and doesn’t do too well. However, he is quite a good speaker in the national debates and after discussing him favorably with my parents we agreed he won most of the arguments even though he wouldn’t win the election. “He should be a talk show host” my mother remarked (my family likes discussing politics.) In 2004 he makes a run against Obama for the Senate seat in Illinois and loses miserably while fostering poor ethos. Maybe this natural born citizenship stunt is a poorly-crafted scheme for revenge. In 2005 his daughter Maya comes out as a lesbian and because of his stance on that she’s estranged from the family. I’m a little disillusioned with him now. Besides the obvious bigotry his speeches on family values sound moot after that. Family is good – don’t get me wrong, but how am I supposed to digest what his pronouncing that when HIS OWN FAMILY is blatantly dysfunctional on high proportions. And that’s one of his big issues! In 2008 he makes another run for the presidency, but I don’t think anybody really noticed. He appeared in one debate and garnered a negligible percentage of the vote – far worse than his showing in 2000. Now in 2009, he’s devolved his politics into conspiracy ranting. I miss the old Alan Keyes! On a side note, I also think he looked a lot better when he has the beard – more distinguished.
I have heard recently that a court refused to hear the case of whether or not Obama is eligible to be President under the Constitution or not. Probably because the “case” of the Obama opponents is retarded. If they had any real evidence they would have presented it before he was elected. That’s the truth. They’re making a mockery of themselves and our system of government. The best course of action they can take now is to move on and work with their new government – including their new president – to further their agenda. This includes civil dialogue, respectful procedure, debate and forging compromise based on shared interest when possible. Then try to do better in the next election. It’s better than acting like a bunch of losers by showing America how sore of one you are!

THE ONE is NOT NBC therefore NOT President. Dael with it!
Umm…yea he is a natural born citizen and IS President under the Supreme Law of the Land – the Constitution. He had American parentage and is therefore an American citizen – doesn’t matter where he was physically at the time.
Obama is our President, you gotta “dael” with it. (um, I think you mean “deal”)
In the face of so much that needs to be dealt with, healed, attended to, fostered, grown, managed, controlled, fixed, furthered, resolved, do we have time for such foolishness? For such obstructionism? For hate? For damming the flow to our future?
No.
I did not vote for our current President. But, as an American citizen it is my obligation and privlege to support and respect The President of The United States of America. I trust the wisdom and will of the people. I know that if this is not correct, it will change. Again.
Let go of trivial things. Focus on what we need to do to heal our nation and grow our democratic lives.
Please.
Oh, and if I wasn’t clear enough in my last comment, let me make sure you understand. I agree totally with Mike’s views on this issue. Mr. Obama’s mother was a bona fide American citizen. He does not have to be born on American soil, simply born of an American Citizen. Am I the only person who remembers their Civics class in school? Geeze….
9/11 Truth wackos? Sorry, but you’ve lost a point here. There is enough evidence out there. In this case, believing the official story is a politically correct Conventional Wisdom and suspecting an “inside job” is Common Sense, quite literally. Not only technical/scientific evidence and experts justify reasonable suspicion (controlled demolition); political motive is visible to the whole world. Without 9/11, the so called “war on terror” – (in fact the war for resources and control over geopolitically strategic regions) could not have been started. The immediate pretext (Iraq’s WMD, etc.) were also fabricated for the same reason. So, what does the common sense say in a case like this?
Holly-thanks for the followup.
Marchtower-I am in no shape or form a mindless worshipper of politically correct dogma, like all too many people out there. But just because something is fringe does not make it Common Sense. Loose Change brought up a lot of points, but it did not tell the whole truth.
I would make the case, but others have done it in a way I couldn’t say better myself. Check out the “Debunking 9/11 Conspiracy” link on my sidebar.
“He had American parentage and is therefore an American citizen …”
Only on his mother’s side.
His father was Kenyan, which was under British rule at the time, therefore making Barack Obama, Sr. a British subject.
Mr. Obama is NOT a natural-born citizen, period, and as such will not be referred to as “President Obama” until he can furnish proof that 1. He was born on US-controlled soil, and 2. that his natural father was either someone other than Barack Obama, Sr., or that Obama, Sr. was a qualifying parent for a natural-born citizen of the United States.
Both of these criteria are required for natural-born citizenship.
Barack was born abroad AND was born to a non-American parent. Without a non-American parent, it is impossible for him to have a blood relative in the country illegally. Think about it.
